3. OBJECT

Object (Unnamed) is inspired by Linder Sterling, this publication explores the inequality of targeted marketing towards women as the ultimate consumer.

Using a A4 scanner as a lens, I captured stills of photographs of women from the national portrait gallery, I felt using real people would create an impact in my concept. I explored how in corporations, women are the ideal consumer, women are encouraged to consume a huge amount more than men.

I used my own photos of objects targeted at women from the store John Lewis, as I felt this was a strong example of a store heavily marketed towards women, as most department stores are.

I distorted the portraits with these objects, some randomly, and other placed more strategically. I intended to cover the faces and recognisable features of these women to represent how consumerism can take away from women’s indiviuality and autonomy.

I used packing tape to add another layer to make the visuals more interesting, as the black and white of the publication became too monotonous.
